- 1950  The Bennett buggy [was] named for R. B. Bennett.
- 1960  Named for R. B. Bennett, who had the misfortune to be prime minister during the first five years of the Depression [1930-35], the buggies were automobiles whose owners could no longer afford gas, oil or licenses. The motors were removed, pairs of trees attached to the front bumpers, and teams hitched on to provide a slow but steady two-horsepower.
- 1961  "We're in for another siege of grasshoppers, drought, low prices and Bennett Buggies," muttered one farmer, recalling the motorless, horse-drawn automobiles sarcastically named for the then Tory Prime Minister R. B. Bennett.
